Canadian Citizenship
Overview & Process




Canadian citizenship allows permanent residents to fully participate in Canadian life, including voting and obtaining a Canadian passport.

Who can apply?

You may be eligible if you:
Are a permanent resident
Have lived in Canada for at least 1,095 days (3 years) in the last 5 years
Have filed taxes (if required)
Meet language requirements (ages 18–54)
Pass the citizenship test (ages 18–54)

Application process:

Submit the citizenship application to IRCC
Provide biometrics (if requested)
Take the citizenship test
Attend an interview (if required)
Take the Oath of Citizenship
After the oath, you officially become a Canadian citizen and can apply for a Canadian passport.
