Garegiver Program
Canada’s Caregiver Program was designed to allow foreign nationals working as caregivers to apply for permanent residence after gaining eligible Canadian work experience. The program focused on meeting the needs of Canadian families by supporting care for children, seniors, and individuals with medical needs or disabilities.

These pathways were occupation-based and required relevant caregiving experience in Canada.
How the Program Worked
Applicant obtained a job offer as a caregiver
Applied for a work permit
Gained the required Canadian work experience
Applied for permanent residence
Caregivers were generally allowed to change employers as long as they remained in the same eligible occupation.
Current Status This caregiver program is currently closed to new applications.
IRCC has capped or paused intake, and new applications are not being accepted at this time.
