Family Sponsorship Class
The objective of family class sponsorship program is to see families are reunited in Canada and to provide the Canadian permanent residents and citizens with the opportunity to bring their relatives to Canada.
This process has 2 steps:
- The sponsorship application which has to be filled by the sponsor
- PR application
The sponsor should not be subject to any sponsorship bars, should fulfill sponsorship financial requirements unless exempted and should sign an undertaking and sponsorship agreement.
The relationships that are recognized in family sponsorship programs are:
- Marriage
- Common law partners: people who cohabit for at least 1 year and are in the conjugal relationship.
- Conjugal partners: are the couples that have not lived together because it was not possible due to the marital status, sexual orientation which is mixed with an immigration barrier.
- Parents, grandparents and their dependent children who are under the age of 22 and are not married or in a common law relationship provided that you can meet the financial requirements of sponsorship
- Dependent children who are under the age of 22 and are not married or in a common law relationship and if older than 22, should be dependent financially and emotionally on parents before the age of 22 due to mental or physical disabilities.
